Heavy Lift Mast Crane

Our Heavy Lift Mast Crane (HLMC) is a compact powerful crane with high lifting capacities and state of the art technology. It is designed for heavy lift vessels used for oversea transport of large and heavy equipment. Most of the HLMC's are installed in a tandem configuration, one on each side or both at the same side of the vessel. Their capacity, range and structure are well-fitted for this specialised use.

The crane consists of a steel mast with a small rectangular footprint welded to the vessel. Around the mast the slew platform and mast head can rotate on slew bearings. The slew platform supports the boom, which is typically short compared to Offshore Mast Cranes. A boom hoist tackle supports the top of the boom from the mast head and controls the radius of the different hoists. Since the load moment is carried by the mast, the lower slew bearing is no longer a critical construction item. Slewing of the slew platform and boom is achieved by pinion drives which are mounted to the fixed mast and drive the lower slew bearing. The mast head follows the slew motion of the boom.

The main, boom and auxiliary hoist winches are installed inside the wing section of the vessel. Therefore, the centre of gravity of HLMC's is located on a low elevation which is beneficial for the stability of the vessel. The steel structure is build from high tensile steel and the crane does not require ballast weight both contributing to a low own weight of the crane.

The omission of ballast weight and the compact design of the HLMC reduce the tail swing providing more free deck space and clearance between the crane and the load. Today's HLMC's are operated by wireless remote control units which can be used from a docking station on the vessel's bridge, cancelling the need for an Operators cabin. All HLMC's are delivered with electric frequency controlled inverter drives. Electric driven cranes require fewer components and are more reliable then hydraulic driven cranes. In general also the redundancy level of an electric driven crane is higher than a hydraulic driven crane. Features like trolley hoists, load tuggers and sling hoists are common practice on our HLMC's

Our 900mt HLMC can be equipped with a modular Super Fly Jib with a maximum length of 51.5m. The Super Fly Jib can be attached to the top of the boom and the main hoist tackle is reeved to the top of the Super Fly Jib. Depending on the arrangement of the Super Fly Jib, lifting capacities between 350 and 600mt are achievable.
