New Concepts

Our research and development of innovative solutions and new techniques is a continuous process at the heart of Huisman and is fundamental to everything we do. Our people share the needed passion for engineering, creativity and challenges to provide our clients with the best possible equipment in the market. We continuously research and develop new concepts, engineering solutions and techniques which we believe add economical, technical, environmental and safety value to the market's existing technologies.

Besides the new concepts mentioned below, an example of a new researched technique is the application of synthetic wires to enable deepwater installation. Examples of in-house developed new concepts currently in production are the drilling equipment sets for the Shell/Noble Bully drill ships, Huisdrill 12000, the LOC 400 and our semi-submersible drilling rig for harsh environments Orion.

Wind Turbine Shuttle

To improve the efficiency of offshore wind turbine installation, we developed the Wind Turbine Shuttle: a dynamically positioned, fast sailing (14 knots) SWATH - Small Water plane Area Twin Hull - type installation vessel which can carry and install two wind turbines in one piece.

Rotating Cantilever on Jack-Up

Inspired by the trend towards larger drilling envelopes, Huisman has developed a third concept for drilling derricks to move between wells at a jack-up rig: the Rotating Cantilever. The cantilever rotates around a fixed point on the deck box and is combined with a drilling mast instead of a conventional derrick making x-y movements using skidding systems.
