Rig for the Future
As oil and gas will be part of the energy mix for the coming years, the challenge for the drilling industry is to produce the required oil and gas with the smallest amount of emissions per delivered well. Semi-Submersibles
In the mid-90s Huisman was involved in the design of the Pride Amethyst 2 class semi-submersible drilling rig. The semi-submersible has a unique vertical riser storage designed by Huisman. Four semi-submersible units were built according to the Huisman design, including Huisman built riser handling cranes and offshore cranes. We continue to use our experience gained in designing complete drilling semi-submersibles.

Well Intervention Systems
Well intervention operations represent a large portion of the total field lifetime costs. Therefore reducing these costs will significantly increase the field economics. Until now, most of the intervention work has been performed by large, expensive drill ships and semi-submersibles. By performing the well interventions from dedicated vessels, the workover costs can be reduced significantly and the drilling rigs can focus on drilling activities again. With the fast-rising number of subsea wells and the promising results of recent well interventions, oil companies are starting to see the benefits of a purpose-built well intervention solution.

Huisman Innovation Tower
The Huisman Innovation Tower is a 90m high drill tower, capable of handling 55m (180ft) stands and 46m (150ft) riser and with the ability to simulate dynamic vessel movements. The HIT is located at the Huisman Schiedam quayside.

Multi Purpose Tower
The Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) was introduced to the market in the late 90s. It is a box girder type mast which houses all the machinery inside. The MPT has the same functionality as a normal derrick but offers additional improved accessibility to the well centres. This accessibility and its improved handling procedures allow for a more efficient way of working.

Rotating Cantiliver
Inspired by the trend towards larger drilling envelopes, we designed the Rotating Cantilever. Traditionally drilling derricks were moved between wells at a wellhead platform, by skidding sideways over the cantilever or by sideways skidding of the entire cantilever over the deck box.

Auto Slip
Manual handling of slips can lead to injury and loss of valuable time. That is why Huisman developed the automated hydraulic power slip. The Auto Slip is an automated power slip that is designed to eliminate the changing of slip sizes during operations. With the Auto Slip, an entire drill string can be handled without manual intervention, additional equipment, changing carriers, or inserts.
