Drilling
Huisman has been designing and building equipment for the offshore drilling market for over 15 years. Initially Huisman delivered cranes and pipe handling equipment, but with the development of the Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) in the late 90’s, Huisman has created the means to drastically improve offshore drilling and equipment handling. What started off with the delivery of riser and pipe handling equipment has evolved into the design and delivery of four state of the art UDW drilling ships outfitted with Dual Multi Purpose Towers (DMPT), the Noble Bully’s and the Noble Globetrotters. After delivery of these vessels, Huisman further developed the design, resulting in the HuisDrill 12000. The design exceeds many of the capabilities of competing drillship designs.
We are continuously exploring and realising new solutions to improve drilling operations. Huisman is for example looking for ways to safely and efficiently take offshore drilling to the arctic regions where many believe large undiscovered oil reserves lie hidden. Another focus point is to further improve efficiency and reduce HSE risks by fully automating the drilling system. The land rigs are already able to trip in and out of the hole fully automatically, without the need of any people on the drill floor.

Land Drilling Rigs
In 2005 Huisman introduced its first land drilling rig to the market, the LOC 250. This was a fully containerised drilling rig for use on land. The introduction was soon followed by the LOC 400 of which several units are operational. Currently, a new land rig, the InnoRig, and a 150mt trailer mounted rig, the HM 150, are under development.

Multi Purpose Tower
The Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) was introduced to the market in the late 90’s. It is a box girder type mast which houses all the machinery inside. The MPT has the same functionality as a normal derrick but offers additional improved accessibility to the well centers. This accessibility and its improved handling procedures allow for a more efficient way of working.

Huisman Innovation Tower
The Huisman Innovation Tower (HIT) is a 90m high test drill tower, capable of handling 55 m (180 ft) stands and 46 m (150 ft) riser and with the ability to simulate dynamical vessel movements. The HIT is located at the Huisman Schiedam quayside and is used, among others, for demonstration and testing purposes.

Drill Ships
Huisman has in-house capabilities for vessel design. This allows us to provide solutions in which vessel and equipment are fully integrated, leading to radically different designs for drilling units.

Well Intervention Systems
To serve both the open water and the riser based well intervention markets, Huisman developed two seperate systems. Both systems are based on the Multi Purpose Tower which is responsible for all vertical movements of the equipment on board. The MPT has the same functionality as a normal derrick but offers improved accessibility to the well centres which allows for improved handling procedures that increase efficiency and safety.

Semi-Submersibles
In the mid 90’s Huisman was involved in the design of the Pride Amethyst 2 class semi-submersible drilling rig. The semisubmersible has a unique vertical riser storage designed by Huisman. Four semi-submersible units were built according to the Huisman design, including Huisman built riser handling crane and offshore cranes. We continue to use our experience gained in designing complete drilling semi-submersibles.

Rotating Cantilever Drilling Equipment
Inspired by the trend towards larger drilling envelopes, we designed the Rotating Cantilever. Traditionally drilling derricks were moved between wells at a wellhead platform, by skidding sideways over the cantilever or by sideways skidding of the entire cantilever over the deck box.
