Huisman has been designing and building equipment for the offshore drilling market for over 15 years. Initially Huisman delivered cranes and pipe handling equipment, but with the development of the Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) in the late 90s, Huisman created the means to drastically improve offshore drilling and equipment handling. What started off with the delivery of riser and pipe handling equipment has evolved into the design and delivery of four state of the art UDW drilling ships outfitted with Dual Multi Purpose Towers (DMPT), the Noble Bully and the Noble Globetrotter vessels. After delivery of these vessels, Huisman further developed the design, resulting in the HuisDrill 12000. The design exceeds many of the capabilities of competing drillship designs.

We are continuously exploring and realising new solutions to improve drilling operations. Huisman is, for example, looking for ways to safely and efficiently take offshore drilling to the Arctic where many believe large undiscovered oil reserves lie hidden. Another focus point is to further improve efficiency and reduce HSE risks by fully automating the drilling system. The land rigs are already able to trip in and out of the hole fully automatically, without the need for any people on the drill floor.

Geothermal Drilling Equipment

Geothermal Drilling Equipment

The world is only just beginning to realise the potential of geothermal heat and power. Once restricted to a few locations, advances in technology have made geothermal energy widely available and affordable. Clean and renewable, this dependable source of energy is available 24/7, all year round, no matter what the weather.

Well technology

Well technology

Huisman develops solutions that increase drilling efficiency by simplifying the drilling process and increasing control. Our mission is to provide highly effective and low risk drilling systems by taking the complete well construction process into consideration while working on solutions. This approach results in fit-for-purpose technology with high levels of automation and constant performance. Solutions cover both downhole and surface equipment and are designed for the global drilling industry while being synergistic with Huisman drilling rigs.

Land Drilling Rigs

Land Drilling Rigs

The LOC 250, Huisman’s first land drilling rig was introduced in 2005 and designed to take advantage of emerging Casing While Drilling technology to reduce the costs as well as the environmental impact of drilling a well. After a few years the demand for deeper/horizontal wells triggered the development of the LOC 250’s successor: the LOC 400 with a higher hook load capacity and the ability to drill deeper wells. To meet today’s demand for faster, more flexible operations in unconventional plays, Huisman has taken lessons learned from their previous land rigs and redesigned them to form the new InnoRig land drilling unit, 100mt trailer mounted rig HM 100 and 150mt trailer mounted rig HM 150.

Multi Purpose Tower

Multi Purpose Tower

The Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) was introduced to the market in the late 90s. It is a box girder type mast which houses all the machinery inside. The MPT has the same functionality as a normal derrick but offers additional improved accessibility to the well centres. This accessibility and its improved handling procedures allow for a more efficient way of working.

Huisman Innovation Tower

Huisman Innovation Tower

The Huisman Innovation Tower (HIT) is a 90m high test drill tower, capable of handling 55 m (180 ft) stands and 46 m (150 ft) riser and with the ability to simulate dynamical vessel movements. The HIT is located at the Huisman Schiedam quayside and is used, among other things, for demonstration and testing purposes.

Well Intervention Systems

Well Intervention Systems

To serve both the open water and the riser based well intervention markets, Huisman developed two seperate systems. Both systems are based on the Multi Purpose Tower, responsible for all vertical movements of the equipment on board. The MPT has the same functionality as a normal derrick but offers improved accessibility to the well centres. This allows for improved handling procedures that increase efficiency and safety.

Semi-Submersibles

Semi-Submersibles

In the mid 90s Huisman was involved in the design of the Pride Amethyst 2 class semi-submersible drilling rig. The semi-submersible has a unique vertical riser storage designed by Huisman. Four semi-submersible units were built according to the Huisman design, including Huisman built riser handling crane and offshore cranes. We continue to use our experience gained in designing complete drilling semi-submersibles.

Rotating Cantilever Drilling Equipment

Rotating Cantilever Drilling Equipment

Inspired by the trend towards larger drilling envelopes, we designed the Rotating Cantilever. Traditionally drilling derricks were moved between wells at a wellhead platform, by skidding sideways over the cantilever or by sideways skidding of the entire cantilever over the deck box.
